Obviously Nate, you're not a parent. If you were, you'd understand.

I'm all for freedom - as long as it's done responsibly. I'm about as open-minded as it comes, but I don't need to see ta-tas hanging out of a coffee shop window when I drive by with my kids. There is a reason that most of the "bikini barista" places have signs outside reading: NO VIEDO OR PICTURES PLEASE. It's because our society sexualizes everything, including these girls. It's ridiculous when you think about it. If I want to see boobies, I'll go to Hooters.

who cares what these women wear at their coffee shops? It's a free country, and they aren't hurting anyone except maybe a few old moms who wished they had bodies like these young women do. Go live in Russia or China if you think Socialism/Communism is soooo good.

These places where *I* live are NOT in Bikinis, my friends. They are in full on slut-a-thon clothing. Thigh highs and thongs, corsetts and bustiers. I live in a conservative, small town. There are two stands on my way out to a main highway. From the country. In the middle of nowhere. They can't be missed.

Albeit capitalism, it is awful IMHO.

"These girls aren’t nowhere as judgmental or low class as some of these people who are opposing it. GOOD DAY!"

I almost fell out of my chair. RIGHT. Maybe they aren't low class nor judgmental, but I most CERTAINLY would question their upbringing, parental involvement through their tender years, and would NOT want my daughter hanging out with a single one that thinks exploiting her body for money (there is a theme to this, you know) is an "ok" thing to do.

Yes. They should be subject to the same rules of other adult oriented businesses. And if a single owner had a smidgen of couth in their blood, they would not have the giant windows facing towards the street. Have a social conscience. Please.

2009- Nobody said anything about Starbuck's here - I was trained by Tully's and yes, I know what a "timed shot" is. I'm pretty good at making one.

Before you go judging yourself, perhaps you should read a little more carefully. I never said that these places should not exist, I have said over and over again that I think they should be subject to the same regulations and standards as other ADULT - oriented businesses!

And I'm not going to sit here and pretend that those girls are serving ONLY coffee - which doesn not make me a "prude" in your esteemed opinion, it makes me aware and cautious of they way I want my children to view women.

I hope you feel better about making such a "grown up" comment and I'd have emailed you privately, but the email you provided did not work.

GOOD DAY,

Also, people don't "WHIP UP" a pot of coffee. You brew a pot. And bribes of latte especially from starbucks? Come on now! Starbucks is not real coffee. Starbucks has probably the worst coffee I have ever tasted in my life. THEY DON'T EVEN TIME THEIR SHOTS. THEY ARE AUTOMATIC. THEY ARE LAZY.

Honestly, Carrie and your crew need to chill out. These girls work at BIKINI stands. Bikini. BIKINI. If that seems to be a problem, I feel so bad for your children because they will be deprived of things such as the BEACH. You can say.. "oh well, we aren't at the beach." I'm sorry, but is there a law that says bikinis can only be worn at the beach? last time I checked, there wasn't. On the otherhand, I think the lingerie thongs and pasties are a bit too much. But as far as bikini stands go... suck it up! Who are you to judge these girls or their job? Really, find whoever gave you that thought that you are God Almighty and your opinion out of the billions of people in this world matters... find that person... and smack them for giving you false information. If you don't like bikini baristas... here's a smart idea.. DON'T GO. Nobody is steering your wheel for you and driving your car up to the window. So, until that day comes... grow up.. and suck it up. And no no no I do NOT work at one of these stands. However, I do know girls that do. These girls aren't nowhere as judgmental or low class as some of these people who are opposing it. GOOD DAY!

Seriously, I'm not saying they don't have a right to be there. Nor am I a "facist." But I do have a right not to take a carload of preschoolers wanting some "overpriced" cocoa somewhere a little more kid friendly than a sexpresso stand.

That does not make me easily offended, that makes me a MOM.

Seriously... "If you don't like it, buy your overpriced coffee somewhere else". "Community standards" are nothing more than majoritist sanctimony. If you think you shouldn't be expected to avert your eyes from something that offends you, your repressed fascist ass has no business living in a free country.

Agi-- Strippers in strip joints aren't hanging out the window for everyone to see. You have to go in and be a certain age, so I don't think that is a fair comparison.

And this isn't about "worrying" it's about action. Worry doesn't do anyone any good. Are you worrying about poverty and war? Or are you taking action? This is one issue we can take action about. And quite frankly, less sexual exploitation would lead to less casual sex, less unwanted pregnancy, less poor single moms, less poverty....

I agree with Carrie, they should have the same regulations as other "adult" businesses.

As for how to explain it to my kids though? Our kids know that we have certain "rules" and standards in our house. When they see other people "breaking" those rules, we just explain that those people don't have our same rules. That way it becomes clear that it's still NOT okay for them, but they don't become judgmental either. We don't say that it's okay for that person to do it, we just say, they don't have the same rules.

My husband took some friends of ours visiting from Denmark to a "stripper-coffee" joint down the street. They COULD NOT BELIEVE that we had such a thing! They were appaled, and were adamant that such a thing would never be allowed in Denmark. There's a difference between appreciating the human body and exploiting it. On this same visit, we learned from the VERY FRIENDLY (although scantily clad) barista that there are 37 such joints in the Seattle area and only 13 elsewhere in the world. I guess that makes Seattle special?
