hi jenny. informative post–thanks. readership building sounds a lot like marketing for starting a new business, except there are web-specific things on which to focus.

i also agree that if you’re not into it, don’t do it–not worth our time to blog about something or use a networking site that’s just painful. i barely have enough time to keep up with my blog, household, and start a practice!

i’ve been a facebook fan for awhile. i did the myspace thing, but that was a little too highschool. facebook was a little more academic, but it still has a ton of lame-o applications. great option to list intro content to blog posts. i’ve found new readers through facebook with the wordpress link option alone!

i’m trying twitter. can’t figure out how to use some of the functions, but it has been somewhat useful.

Thank you for all the great information. I am really trying to grow my readership right now, so I appreciate this column. I wish I had a great tip to add, but I don’t.

Participating in Make Me Laugh Monday’s has increased my readership, but I wasn’t trying to do that when I decided to do it. I just thought it was a fun carnival. Added karma bonus like you said.

Thanks for this great advice. I’ve been blogging now for over a year, and I’m always looking at ways to enhance my blog – visually, artistically, and contently (yeah, I know that’s not a word, but you get the point).

Now you tell me about starting a carnival when you’re “bigger”! LOL!

I started Attitude of Gratitude a few weeks ago and have just had a few people participating. I am going to give it a few more weeks.

Also, how would you determine “100 dedicated readers”? Would you add number of returning and unique visitors in a day? Number of returning visitors in a week? Number of subscribers? (Hey! I think you’ve got another topic for your series right here — if you haven’t already planned to write about stats.)
