Introducing Daring Dining

Posted by Daring One On November - 10 - 2007

So it’s time for me to come out of the closet and admit it. I LOVE FOOD! Love. It. I love to cook it, eat it, buy it, create with it. I love it madly. My favorite appliances are the ones that chop, mix, grate and cook. If I had to choose one room to live in for the rest of my life, I’d pick the kitchen, hands down.

My neighbors often see me wandering the yard in my large floral apron because if I’m not currently cooking, I’m probably thinking about cooking or just finishing up my latest project.

My specialties are authentic Indian food and a wide variety of baked goods. I also enjoy finding new ways to eat vegetables and I do a lot of light cooking. It’s not really light anymore if I eat as much as I want to eat of it, but it’s the thought that counts.

Variety is the key to my kitchen joy, sometimes to a fault. Any given week I prepare foods from several different countries, including Japan, Italy, and New Jersey. I’m always experimenting and sometimes have trouble remembering what I’ve made in the past. If I make something good, Dan had better enjoy it at the time because I may never make it again.

As much as I love creating in the kitchen, I’m also a big fan of eating out. I try to restrain myself due to budget constraints but I love me a good restaurant. With the kids, with friends, on a date with Dan or alone, I am happy to sample the cooking of others without the task of dishwashing afterwards.

In Daring Dining, I’ll talk about food, food in the Seattle area, food in my kitchen, getting food into kids’ tummies and food in my dreams. Join me here for a feast of culinary expression.

  3. YES! I love food too. Eating it, that is. I suck at cooking and am astounded every day at how lucky I am to have a husband who loves to cook as much as you do. And it’s like you said…if he cooks it today, he may never cook it again. So I savor every bite.

One question: Do you cook from recipes or do you cook from feel? My Mr. Right might use a recipe for “INSPIRATION”–but really he’s a freestyle sort of cook. Me, even if I follow the recipe (on top ramen) by the letter, I’m still bound to screw it up.

I cook from recipes to begin with and then try to branch out, not always very successfully. Maybe I can write about my attempts to be more adventurous in this series.

Ah, a foodie too! Knew I liked you for a reason.

What, pray tell, do you possibly cook from New Jersey? I practically LIVE in New Jersey, and I still don’t see anything worth reproducing from there.

  6. I usually get my insperation from the food that’s in the fridge. My wife loves to eat and I like to cook. In the past it was hard to remember how I made something so my wife and I worked out a system. I throw it in and she writes down how much of what just in case she wants me to make it again.
