Now that we’ve entered the weeks of eternal cloud-cover, we need to make every ounce of sunshine count. That’s why I was so excited to hear about Cookie Magazine’s article on the best playgrounds in several major U.S. cities. Seattle was listed and I can’t wait to check them out.
I’ve lived in the Seattle area for 4 years now and haven’t come close to seeing all the great outdoor play spaces it has to offer. We love the fountain at the City Center and several small parks on the Eastside, a couple of favorites being:
1. Pine Lake Park in Sammamish - A great park with all sorts of activities for kids, this one is especially fun in the summertime when our favorite thing to do is swim. The lake has roped-off swimming areas for all ages and a beach that stays in the shade for most of the day. I remember it fondly as the park where I learned not to yank down my daughter’s swim diaper when I don’t know what it contains.
2. Ferril McWhirter Park in Redmond - Animals!!!!!
3. Perrigo Park in Redmond - This is a fairly new park with a great play structure, beach volleyball courts, large covered picnic area and fabulous soccer field. We mostly like to play in the sand when the big kids take a break from spiking the ball.
What are your favorite parks around town?
Forest Park in Everett has a petting zoo, a restored water fountain in the summer, free concerts, a killer pool and fun play structures, but what do my kids like the best?
Sliding down the gigantic hill on cardboard with all the rest of the daredevils!
Jennings Park in Marysville is also good for those who live north.
We’re still fairly new so we haven’t found the perfect park just yet. We had our son’s birthday party at Angle Lake Park, which is where we’ve stuck to. I can’t wait to really explore Seattle… *sigh*
I LOVE the playground at Magneson Park… it’s HUGE! Also deeply love Carkeek Park (sp?) and of course Green Lake playground.
Oh, Pine Lake is a favorite. Li’l Man and I would eat lunch there after pre-school almost daily last year. There’s so much to do even in fall. Rock climbing wall, swings (most parks seem to be getting rid of them), fishing dock to watch the ducks, two playgrounds, soccer field, basketball courts, sandy beach, and gorgeous trees. Truly something for eveybody. If you are in the Sammamish area, there’s also eBright park that opened this summer which has some pretty cool, unique playground equipment. My kids–even the 11 year old–love going there!
We always end up at Wallingford or Green Lake (Wallingford is great for being fenced in). I keep meaning to venture out to different parks!
